why i talk about david bowie all the damn time

Contrary to popular belief, this obsession with David Bowie doesn’t come from being introduced to him for the first time.  My friends still wonder where the hell this came from.

Matthew first introduced him to me when we first got together.  He liked singing Thursday’s child and Seven and Little Wonder to me over the phone.  But David never really clicked with me.  He was interesting guy who took some getting used to.  I hate to admit it, but I really didn’t like Ziggy Stardust at all, for years.

I’m not sure what changed.  It must have been me, for sure.  Because David has always been David.

And suddenly I couldn’t drive my car without Ziggy squealing from my player.  I couldn’t walk to work without David belting out his latest Reality album.  The final test came when I went on a trip without Bowie for half a month…and almost died halfway through it.

Nowadays, it’s still pretty bad.  If I don’t listen to at least five Bowie songs in a day, my head starts to hurt.  I’m unfortunately not exaggerating.  Everyone at work can’t stand the fact that I play the Hunky Dory album and Reality Tour concert on repeat.  Hah!

But what is it about David?  He’s definitely one of the most amazing musicians of our time.  He’s one of the most amazing human beings of our time.  But more than that, he embodies an incredible range of creativity and still adheres to some mysterious theme that I can’t quite describe yet.  He writes the most beautiful lyrics, has an amazing creative process, and has an amazing persona built around and from his music.

There’s just something about him, be he Ziggy, Halloween Jack, the Thin White Duke, Leon, or David.  And during my most testing time in this horrible space between youth and adulthood, he’s my strongest protection against the outside world.  He’s an escape that keeps me grounded.

I thought that by the time I finished writing this, I’d have had something solid to say about David.  But I don’t.  I guess I still need a few more years on me, huh?

Did you know that he played Nicola Tesla, the eccentric inventor in the film The Prestige? Miam was so melty-mush about that.

Have you heard the rumour that he could be recording a new album – and *in Berlin*?! Check out my blog at http://bowiechameleonofpop.wordpress.com. It’s all about David and I’ve got tons of stuff, I haven’t even got everything on yet there’s so much!

I ❤ Bowie.

Bowie is a Fascinating man! He kind of grows on you, gets under the skin, until you can’t get him out of your head.

I always say that I can find a Bowie reference in just about anything. Check out my website. I title all my posts to Bowie lyrics. http://www.FantastykVoyage.blogspot.com
